Today would be the last day to buy a new bucket for brining your turkey before Thanksgiving! One essential that is often forgotten about before Thanksgiving is: What are you going to brine your Turkey in? Well, there are only two answers to this question:  A 5-gallon bucket or a 5-gallon pot. Now, since most kitchens are not equipped with a 5-gallon pot, its time to go buy a brand new 5-gallon bucket before stores close for Thanksgiving. In the past year, one of the most popular stories on Orange Patch, believe it or not is, "How To: Cooking Perfect Hard Boiled Eggs" That's where you start, by cooking your eggs, when they are cooled, peel and then follow this simple recipe. Make any variances for your own taste. 12 hard-cooked eggs 3 Tbsp. Mayonnaise 2 tsp.  Mustard 2 tsp. white vinegar 1 tsp.  sugar 1/8 tsp. paprika Cut the eggs lengthwise in half. Remove yolks; place in medium bowl. Add all remaining ingredients except paprika; mix well. You can either scoop spoonfuls of the mixture into the egg halves and sprinkle with paprika or for a fancier presentation, spoon the mixture into a resealable plastic bag. Ohio State met with Urban Meyer on Wednesday, and the possibility that he will become the football coach there next season is close to becoming a reality. Still, the final word on Meyer and Ohio State will not come until after Saturday, when the Buckeyes play Michigan in their final game of the regular season. In a statement on Wednesday morning, Meyer said: “I have not been offered the job. I have not taken the job. I will not comment any further. I’m going to do Thanksgiving with my family.”  There are a handful of obstacles Meyer must clear before further engaging with Ohio State, according to a person with knowledge of the situation. That includes speaking with his entire family over Thanksgiving and further researching just how significant the N.C.A.A. sanctions against Ohio State may be. There are dozens of recipes for mashed potatoes. And most of the year, I'm adventurous, often throwing in shredded cheddar, bits of bacon and even horseradish. But when it comes to Thanksgiving, the grandeur of a roasted turkey demands a simple side of classic mashed potatoes. Growing up, I remember my mom quartering russet potatoes and boiling them with their skins on. The tricky part was peeling the hot potatoes before they cooled and pushing them through the ricer. My favorite part was watching those spaghetti-like threads ooze out of the ricer, with not a lump to be found. Although I appreciate this method, I follow a different recipe now. Peeling and dicing the potatoes uniformly allows them to cook more quickly, and the standing mixer does most of the mashing work. NASCAR Sprint Cup driver Kurt Busch has apologized for verbally abusing ESPN reporter Jerry Punch during Sunday's race at Homestead-Miami Speedway. A video shot by a fan and posted on YouTube.com shows Busch calling Punch an expletive. Busch also was caught during the live broadcast making an obscene gesture inside his car as he drove his wounded Dodge into the garage. Busch blamed his behavior on his poor showing. He finished 34th – 47 laps down. "Unfortunately, our result in the season-ending race at Homestead on Sunday was not what we had hoped for as a team," he said. "In my frustration with the loss of my transmission early in the race, I let my emotions get the better of me. I regret having done this and apologize to the sponsors of Penske Racing, to NASCAR, its fans, to the media and in particular, Dr. Jerry Punch."   There’s a reason this man is showing up in all the great artworks of history, pepper-spray can in hand, expression of utter, unmoved nonchalance firmly in place under the bulky helmet as he sprays protesters in the face. He’s really a good Samaritan. Some see in him a cop just doing his job. But I think that understates the positives. As Megyn Kelly sagely observed to Bill O’Reilly on Fox News last night, pepper spray is “a food product, essentially,” and it was thoughtful of him to share it with so many protesters. It’s like the miracle of the loaves and fishes again — so many nourished, from such a tiny can.   A day earlier but equally as intriguing, tonight’s The X Factor was all about “giving thanks.” However, leave it to Josh Krajcik ‘s performance to make me thankful to have The X Factor as a staple on my DVR.  Here are my thoughts on the contestants tonight: Rachel Crow : Rachel has been a strong contender all along, and she was giving thanks to her adoptive parents by singing “I Believe” by Yolanda Adams, w hich for me was actually quite forgettable. She has a great voice but there were moments that she seemed uncomfortable with the song. It was a little too preachy for my tastes. But the judges loved it so she will be safe. I would have picked a more fun song, but starting first means people will forget the performance anyway. So it was good to start the show with Rachel who will not be in the bottom 2 at all this week.
