The Daily Shoutout: Dez Bryant

OPENING HIT: The great Dez Bryant. The spectacular Dez Bryant. The foolhardy Dez Bryant. The Dez Bryant that could one day be the best wide receiver in football. The Dez Bryant who sometimes seems like he could burn out tomorrow. It was all there on Sunday night against the Jets.

Bryant had two huge catches against the Jets, one for a spectacular touchdown. But he also ran wrong routes. He worked hard on some plays, jogged a handful of other routes when the ball wasn't going his way.

He was tough and gutsy playing through cramps but he was also stupidly hot-headed. He instigated a series of arguments with Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis and Revis responded in kind. But Revis was smarter. He goaded Bryant into shoving him right in front of a game official. The official didn't fall for it but if it that had happened before one of the more gullible officials it could have meant a penalty.

Bryant beat both of the Jets' corners, easily at times, and New York's corners are the best in football. That's how good Bryant is. And he can get better. Just as long as he's smart.

ONE MORE THING...On the Jets. One of the narratives floating about after the Jets game was that New York was lucky to beat Dallas. One aspect about the Jets the team doesn't get credit for is that the Jets make their own luck. They forced Tony Romo into a game-killing interception because of a defensive call they initiated that confused Romo. This is what the Jets do. They force teams into mistakes and they're probably going to keep doing this all the way to the postseason.

U.S. Senate Passes Unemployment Extension

The U.S. Senate passed a bill which had a provision for renewed unemployment extension benefits.  Florida's U.S. Senator Bill Nelson voted for the bill while Senator Marco Rubio voted against the bill. Following his vote against H.R. 2055, the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2012, Senator Marco Rubio issued the following statement: “This massive 1,200-plus page bill represents everything that is wrong with Washington.
