Kevin Stefanski gives up Browns play-calling duties

Kevin Stefanski Hands Over Browns Play-Calling Duties to Offensive Coordinator Ken Dorsey: A New Era for Cleveland’s Offense In a significant shift for the Cleveland Browns, head coach Kevin Stefanski has decided to relinquish his play-calling responsibilities, passing them on to recently hired offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey. This move marks a pivotal moment in the evolution of the Browns’ offense, signaling Stefanski’s willingness to adapt in hopes of igniting the team's underwhelming performance on that side of the ball. The Decision to Step Back Since taking over as head coach in 2020, Stefanski has called offensive plays for the Browns. Under his leadership, Cleveland’s offense initially flourished, particularly during the 2020 season when the team made a rare playoff appearance, defeating the Pittsburgh Steelers in the Wild Card round. Stefanski's offensive schemes, emphasizing a run-heavy attack and play-action passes, played a key role in maximizing the talents of qu...

Cane Corso Mastiff Fatally Mauls Boy, But Dog Is Not To Blame

Image
A 4-year-old Brooklyn boy was tragically mauled to death on Friday night by the family dog. Young Jayelin Graham was attacked by the dog as his 2- and 5-year-old brothers (who were also injured) watched in horror from underneath the bed. His mother, Saquina Jubeark had stepped out of the apartment into the hall with her infant daughter when the dog grabbed onto the boy’s neck and never let go. A neighbor ran in when she heard the mother’s shrieks, but was unable to even get close to the dog who had gone into a full blown killing mode. Whatever caused the Cane Corso Mastiff to attack is unclear but neighbors were not surprised. They say the dog which belonged to the mother’s boyfriend, Damian Jones was trained to kill. Jones had bragged about that fact many times. Neighbors report that the family home was a disaster waiting to happen for more reasons than this dog alone. The first-floor family home housed the Cane Corso, two other dogs, two birds and fish in a midst of fi...

Indy 500’s better than ever at 100

Image
T he Indianapolis 500 celebrates 100 years of competition Sunday. From the first winner, American Ray Harroun in something called a Marmon "Wasp," to the latest, Englishman Dario Franchitti, the Indy 500 has become the most famous race in the world. This year, observers say it boasts the strongest 33-car field it has seen since the CART-Indy split in 1996. It’s a regular stop for the Izod IndyCar Series drivers, but the race also includes former champions and non-IndyCar regulars who are in a ride for one shot at glory at The Brickyard. Here is a look at some of the storylines, drivers and numbers that could determine the shape of the race: Five drivers to watch Dario Franchitti: The defending champion, going for a third Indy 500 victory. Scott Dixon: The 2008 winner might end up fighting it out with Franchitti, his Chip Ganassi teammate. Oriol Servia: An underrated driver kept off the track by money issues most of the past two years. But he’s got a good rid...

Lockheed Martin hit with 'significant and tenacious' cyber attack

Image
The world's largest defense contractor said Saturday it fought off a "tenacious" cyber attack last week. Lockheed Martin Corp, the Pentagon's No. 1 supplier, said in a statement it detected a "significant" assault on its computer networks on May 21. It was found "almost immediately" and no employee, program or customer data was lost, the company said in a statement. The Department of Homeland Security said it knew about the "cyber incident," and was investigating alongside the Department of Defense. The agencies are "determining the extent of the incident, performing analysis of available data in order to provide recommendations to mitigate further risk," said Chris Ortman, a spokesman for the agency. Lockheed uses a mobile security system produced by EMC Corp.’s RSA unit. RSA bolstered security for clients, including Lockheed, after a network breach in March resulted in the theft of RSA data, a person familiar wit...

Silver Hawks: Smith, Dragons cut down Hawks

Image
SOUTH BEND -- Aggressiveness at the plate has been a strength for the South Bend Silver Hawks lately. But on Friday night, aggressive swings were a liability. South Bend, which had won seven of its previous nine games, ran into an even hotter pitcher as Dayton's Josh Smith handcuffed the Silver Hawks in a 6-1 minor-league baseball victory for the Dragons. Smith, a 6-foot-2, 200-pound right-hander, picked up his fourth victory against three losses. He pitched six innings, giving up only two infield hits. Smith struck out five and walked one. In his last three outings, including Friday's victory against South Bend, Smith has only give up three runs in 18?240-208? innings, allowed just 10 hits, and struck out 23 while only giving up two walks. "I felt like I was getting ahead on fastballs and make hitters hit my pitch (a curveball)," said Smith, who leads the Midwest League with 72 whiffs. "They w...

Kennedy’s Galbraith Surges to Semis

CEDAR RAPIDS – Riley Galbraith lives to compete in moments like the one he experienced Friday. When the Cedar Rapids Kennedy junior tennis standout seized the moment, it became even more special. Galbraith won his first two matches, including an exciting three-set quarterfinal victory over Bettendorf’s Kyle Johnson in the Iowa High School Athletic Association’s Class 2A state singles and doubles tournament at Veterans Memorial Tennis Center. “I’m just really happy,” Galbraith said. “This is what I play for.” Galbraith made his state debut with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Rex Ju of Cedar Falls. He then faced Johnson, who had been a state finals regular placing second in doubles two years ago and playing on the 2011 championship doubles team with David DeSimone. Johnson owned a 68-2 career singles record in high school before taking on Galbraith. The district runner-up wasn’t intimidated. “I play all these guys in the summer and other tournaments,” Galbraith said about the to...

Blackbeard's Queen Anne's Revenge wreck reveals secrets of the real Pirate of the Caribbean

Image
He was a real-life pirate of the Caribbean, who carefully cultivated a bloodthirsty reputation that struck fear through seafarers. Now, almost 300 years after Blackbeard's death, marine archaeologists have discovered a huge anchor and an arsenal of "improvised" ammunition from the wreck of his flagship, Queen Anne’s Revenge. New evidence about the terrifying and deadly tactics employed by Blackbeard is emerging from the diving expedition on the vessel’s presumed remains. The divers have discovered that weapons used by the pirate were not only intended to kill but were designed to strike terror into survivors and force them into a swift surrender. The shipwreck lies in about 25ft of water just off the coast of the American state of North Carolina and the expedition to recover artefacts is being led by the state’s Department of Cultural Resources. During the two-week exploration, the team aimed to recover a 1.4 ton (3,000lb) anchor ...

Spoken-word musician Gil Scott-Heron dies in NYC

Image
NEW YORK - Musician Gil Scott-Heron, who helped lay the groundwork for rap by fusing minimalistic percussion, political expression and spoken-word poetry on songs such as "The Revolution Will Not Be Televised," died Friday at age 62. A friend, Doris C. Nolan, who answered the telephone listed for his Manhattan recording company, said he died in the afternoon at St. Luke's Hospital after becoming sick upon returning from a European trip. "We're all sort of shattered," she said. Scott-Heron's influence on rap was such that he sometimes was referred to as the Godfather of Rap, a title he rejected. "If there was any individual initiative that I was responsible for it might have been that there was music in certain poems of mine, with complete progression and repeating `hooks,' which made them more like songs than just recitations with percussion," he wrote in the introduction to his 1990 collection of poems, "Now and Then....
